Mike Byrnes, CEO/Owner

Mike has had a wide variety of success through the game of basketball. After spending three years as an Assistant Coach at WPI and Nichols College, he stepped away from the college game and began to focus on youth basketball.

After taking over the Central Mass Swarm in January 2016, Mike quickly grew the program to 20 teams. He has now further expanded the organization into (6) States, with over 150 teams. The Swarm is now one of the largest Club Basketball programs in the Country. Mike's vision for the program is to teach players to play the game the "right way". He would like to continue to expand the brand all over the country.

In addition to the Swarm, Mike is also the Head Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach at Shepherd Hill Regional High School. In his first year in the winter of 17-18, Shepherd Hill took home the Clark Tournament Large school title. In addition, they were also crowned D2 Central Mass Champions, and advanced to the Massachusetts Final Four. Mike was also awarded the MBCA Central Mass Coach of the year.

 

Alice Mullen, Director of Operations

Alice comes to the Swarm after a variety of success within the sports industry over the past decade.

Mullen is a four year letter winner from the Rhode Island College Women's Basketball team. She is six in all time most games played at Rhode Island College, Most Valuable Player in the 2009-2010 season, and was team captain her senior season.

A 2010 graduate of Rhode Island College, Mullen stayed on at her alma mater to serve as an assistant on the Anchorwomen’s staff the following year. She helped guide RIC to a program record-tying 20-7 record and the second round of the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament for the first time in six years. Mullen had a hand in recruiting the Anchorwomen’s standout freshman class that helped them to the Little East regular season and championship titles in 2011-12.

In 2011, Mullen left RIC for Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts where she accepted the position of as top assistant coach. After just one season, Mullen was promoted to head coach where she would spend the next five seasons. At the time, Mullen was the youngest NCAA head women's basketball coach at the age of 23 in her first season at the helm. Mullen guided the program to post season action twice and coached numerous all-conference players during her tenure. Her squad was also recognized for receiving the highest team GPA on campus in nearly every semester under her guidance. In May of 2017, Mullen stepped down from head coach to accept a full-time faculty position at the College

In addition to her dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and women’s studies, Mullen holds a MBA from Nichols in May, 2014. She is currently a doctoral student Troy University pursuing a Ph.D. in Sport Management.

Mullen is a 2011 graduate of the Nike/WBCA So You Want to Be a Coach program and has coached at several regional camps, including the Blue Star Exposure Clinic, Boston College Women's Basketball Camp, Hoop Mountain Exposure Camp, and the Batastini School of Basketball Camp.

 

Kasey Ayer, Director of Marketing

Kasey was a Marketing Major and Sports Management Minor at Nichols College, graduating with a 3.9 in both programs of study. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude and received designation for being enrolled in the Honors Program, Emerging Leaders Program, and Zeta Alpha Phi Academic Honors Society. Kasey worked for three years at Mohegan Sun as a Marketing Representative and completed an internship with Boston College in their Athletic Fundraising department. Kasey was a four-year letter winner with the Nichols College Softball program and was named captain in the 2017-18 season.

 

Ryan Meagher, Assistant Director of Operations

Ryan was a Sport Management major from Nichols College, graduating in the top 2% of his class in 2018. Ryan also holds a Bachelors of Arts from Rhode Island College where he majored in Music. Ryan’s professional experience ranges from tournament management to marketing and sponsorship.
